AONB - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
We are very fortunate that all of our luxurious self catering holiday cottages are located within the AONB. Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are recognised as some of Britain's finest countryside, with landscapes of particularly distinctive character, remarkable natural beauty and high ecological value. They are protected by law to ensure the conservation and enhancement of their natural beauty, all of this is on our door step for you to enjoy during your visit to Westward Living.
The North Devon Coast AONB is one of a family of 'Protected Landscapes' in the South West. These include Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks and 12 other Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which together cover 37% of land in the South West Region.
The North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are nationally designated to protect and conserve the 171 km2 of distinctive and magnificent coastal landscapes between the Cornish border and Exmoor National Park.
The landscape varies from wild coastal cliffs, spectacular waterfalls and rocky coves to sand dunes and beaches, wooded combes and valleys with sheltering villages. All of our self catering holiday cottages have private access on to the South West Coastal Footpath, we really are a haven for nature lovers and walkers.
The AONB Partnership supports sustainable development for our coastal communities and the rural economy, whilst conserving the outstanding wildlife, landscape and heritage of North Devon.
