Summer in Westward Ho! means long days on the beach, barbeques on the sand and breathtaking sunsets. Whether you want to book a massage, take surfing lessons or play a round of golf at the UK’s oldest links course at Royal North Devon Golf Club, we’ll be delighted to help during your holiday on the North Devon coast. In the meantime, here are a few things we love about summertime in Westward Ho!
Sandy Beaches on the North Devon Coast
We are lucky to have one of North Devon’s most spectacular beaches on our doorstep. Westward Ho! is a Blue Flag beach with a wonderful stretch of golden sand and clean water for swimming and surfing. The beach is more than two miles long, so you never have to go far to find a quiet spot to sunbathe, build a sandcastle or enjoy a barbeque as the sun sets on the horizon.
Westward Ho! has everything for the perfect day by the sea, so you can have an unforgettable summer holiday without leaving. But if you fancy exploring further afield, there are loads of beautiful beaches nearby, including the sandy surf spots of Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton, and wild, rocky bays on the rugged Hartland Peninsula.
Great Food in Westward Ho!
Summer is an excellent excuse to eat out in Westward Ho! The village is packed with great restaurants and many of them have sunny terraces with sea views. Beach Bar Diner serves a selection of tasty burgers, pizzas and milkshakes, right on the seafront with views all the way to Saunton Sands. And Tea on the Green is a must for an afternoon Devonshire cream tea with fresh clotted cream and scones straight from the oven.
Exploring the North Devon Coast
The North Devon coast is truly spectacular, with ancient fishing villages, clifftop walks and secret coves. If you want to explore the coast by foot, the Southwest Coast Path runs right through the village, offering incredible views across the Atlantic towards Lundy Island. Head east from Westward Ho! and you will amble through the wild dunes of Northam Burrows Country Park before arriving in the pretty fishing village of Appledore. Head west and you will pass the dramatic, rocky cove at Bucks Mills before reaching Clovelly, where steep, cobbled lanes descend to a picturesque harbour. If you want to experience the best of this unspoiled coastline during your holiday in Westward Ho!, talk to a member of our friendly team and we’ll be delighted to point you in the right direction.
