Smelling of roses in North Devon

Just over a week ago some of the Westward Living team took a day away from the office as we had kindly been invited by RHS Garden Rosemoor in Torrington to have a look around the beautiful gardens. Torrington is particularly famous for the Battle of Torrington in 1646 and is also home to Dartington Crystalso plenty to incorporate into your family day out.

We left Westward Living and the journey took us around 20 minutes by car so not too far at all, once we arrived there was plenty of parking and great access for everyone, and to top it off the sun was shining! If your feeling energetic, you can also take a bike ridethrough the beautiful Tarka Trail directly from Bideford to Torrington.

We were greeted at the entrance and Richard Mulford who talked us through the lay out of the gardens and what we could expect as we were looking around. … he had even taken the time to book us on to one of the brilliant half term sculpture classes for Charlie aged 11, he thoroughly enjoyed it. It was such a fun and friendly atmosphere, and everyone in the room made a wonderful creation.

After the sculpture class, we took a walk around round Darkham woods and arrived in the Winter garden, the smell of the flowers just made you think it was spring, we continued the walk through the Spiral garden all the way down to the Fruit and Vegetable garden taking in all of the 65 acres’ as we went. On route there was array of stunning sculpture’s dotted amongst the shrubs and flowers. Not only is there the beautiful gardens to look around Rosemoor also have a bursting diary of events throughout the year from gardeners question and answers to evening’s of comedy featuring Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Voice Guy.

We ended our visit with a stop in the bustling tea room where we treated ourselves to some very tasty locally sourced cold drinks and yummy homemade cakes.  Alan joined us on the visit, we were offered a wheel chair and also had the option to pre-book a tramper, this is an excellent option for visitors with limited mobility.

As we had such a wonderful time visiting RHS Garden Rosemoorwe want our guests staying at Westward Living to experience the wonderful delights it has on offer too, so we have teamed to together with RHS Garden Rosemoorand if you show your Westward Living key fob on entry it gets you reduced entry fee of £9.50 per adult (instead of £11.80).
