A provider of luxury self-catering accommodation on the North Devon coast has become the only entrant at the Devon Tourism Awards to pick up two Golds.Westward Living, at Westward Ho! Beach, received the accolades at a ceremony at Plymouth Guildhall on November 23. Now in their eighth year, the awards saw a record 205 entries in 25 categories, with 76 wins announced on the night. After a rigorous three-phase judging process with 120 judging visits to the competing businesses, the winners were announced and Westward Living won two Gold awards – for Self-Catering Provider of the Year and International Travel Experience of the year.
Westward Living has recently seen a rise in the number of international travellers booking its seafront apartments and cottages. Westward Ho! has strong historic links with America, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and beyond, and attracts visitors from far and wide. Owners Kathy and Chris Murdoch spent many years travelling in the hospitality industry before launching Westward Living, and are always delighted to introduce travellers to the sandy beaches, clifftop walks and rolling hills of North Devon. "We were delighted to win Gold in two categories,” said Kathy.“We have invested heavily to improve our customer experience in the last 12 months, and have adapted to the current market and the impact of Brexit on European Travel. “In my opinion, Devon offers the best accommodation and attractions in the UK, and we are very excited to grow our reach in the coming months.“Chris and I also wish to thank the incredible Westward Living Team who have made this possible."
Following the ceremony, the event’s organiser and Visit Devon director Robin Barker said: "I am so elated that we made the decision to launch these awards eight years ago. “The investments in excellence, and especially in outstanding service we've seen since are literally flabbergasting.“The delight we see each year from winners, along with their feedback, tells me that we are making a difference to Devon and to its number one industry. Well done to all."
