Autumn & Winter is a magical time in the South West for a self catering holiday on the North Devon coast. It’s still warm enough to spend long days surfing with the appropriate (wet/dry suit), exploring and walking along the shore, but the kids have gone back to school and the beach is much quieter than in the summer months. This year, we are offering a variety of dog friendly winter breaks luxury self-catering cottages and we can provide flexible arrival and departure dates outside the school holidays. Now is the perfect time to book a relaxing dog friendly winter break in Westward Ho! North Devon, in the meantime, here are a few of our favourite things to do on the North Devon coast from November to February.
Walking the Dog on the Beach
Winter is a wonderful time for a stroll along the seashore. Westward Ho! Beach stretches for more than two miles from the village towards Appledore and the Torridge estuary in Bideford. Stop for a coffee, chat to other dogwalkers and enjoy stunning views across Bideford Bay towards Lundy Island. The weather is still mild in autumn, but the beach is much quieter, so there’s loads of space for dogs and their owners to stretch their legs. The council’s rules on where dogs can be walked at Westward Ho! are lifted at the end of September, too, so you can explore the entire Blue Flag beach without worrying about straying into a restricted zone.
Visiting dog friendly places to eat.
Here at Westward Living in our luxurious self catering holiday cottages, we are spoilt for choice of great places to enjoy a meal with your four-legged buddy.
