Westward Ho! Beach has been awarded the coveted blue flag status for the 18th year in a row!
Westward Ho! Beach is poised to become one of the leading destinations of choice in North Devon as families plan their holidays for this year's summer vacation getaway.
Westward Living self catering holiday cottages in Westward Ho! is only a short walk from the glorious 2.5 mile stretch of golden sandy beach at Westward Ho!
The Blue Flag is widely considered to be the gold standard for beaches and as such is internationally recognised. While most people are aware that the certification guarantees the quality of the bathing water this is only part of the criteria on which beaches are judged. To qualify to fly the Blue Flag the beach must satisfy standards in four categories and against 33 individual targets covering environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, safety and services. The Blue Flag beach award is widely considered the gold standard for beaches. Awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education, the Blue Flag is internationally recognised.
Backed by the pebble ridge and Northam Burrows Country Park, the golden sands of Westward Ho! beach stretch for over 2 miles at low tide. Popular with visitors throughout the year, the award supports its claim to be the area's premier seaside destination. Westward Ho! also became the focus of national attention earlier this year when community led initiatives saw the resort become the first in the country to ban the sale of cheap polystyrene bodyboards with over 16,000 of these discarded on our beaches up and down the country each year. A beach clean 4 beach toys scheme was also launched in May 2021 in a bid to recycle collected beach plastic into brand new beach toys such as buckets and spades.
Wow Kala’s cottage is amazing, peace and tranquility with amazing views. The cottage it’s self is beautiful, a sense of that home from home feeling
We got married here last year and returned this summer for our first anniversary. I can not justify in words how wonderful this place is.
We loved our stay, the cottage has stylish decor and furnishings and its right on the South West Coastal footpath with wonderful views, great for early morning and late evening walks to see the sunrise and sunset.
A totally relaxing and romantic stay, we loved the hot tub and views. It was so peaceful and perfect, just what we needed
